Week 1

Intro: Welcome:  Why to take class (comic, public speaker, entertainer, improved personality).

Overview of course, Stage and microphone technique, handling the microphone, Stage presence: Taking the stage, stationary/moving, Joke writing: Structure:  Setup & Punch, Tags, connectors, non verbal comedy, physical comedy, double meaning connectors,  How comedy works, “The System”.

Week 2

Joke writing, choosing subjects, associations, where material comes from, shortcuts, digging for ore, exercise, improving your material, writing groups

Week 3

Exploring points of view, emotions, non verbal comedy, characters, sound effects, impersonations, musical comedy, polishing and organization, building your show, rehearsal and performance techniques, writing groups

 

Week 4

Timing, , stage notes, MC introductions, getting prepared to go up, handling the unexpected, dealing with hecklers, open mikes, clubs, clean vs. blue, getting work

Week 5

Showcase at The Bootlegger for friends and family

Week 6

Review week 5 show with critique
